You'll also need to sign in to this account to renew or make changes to your client's subscription in the future.\n\nIf you already have a personal account on GitHub, skip to [step 2](#step-2-create-the-organization).\n\n1. Go to the [Join GitHub](https://github.com/join) page.\n2. Complete the form, then click **Create account**.\n3. Select GitHub Free for your personal account.\n4. Click **Finish sign up**.\n\n## Step 2: Create the organization\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Settings**.\n2. In the \"Access\" section of the sidebar, click ** Organizations**.\n3. Next to the \"Organizations\" header, click **New organization**.\n4. Under \"Choose a plan\", click **Choose GitHub Free**. You will upgrade the organization in the next step.\n5. Under \"Organization name\", type a name for your organization.\n6. Under \"Contact email\", type a contact email address for your client.\n7. Optionally, if your organization is owned by a business or institution, select **This organization is owned by a business**.\n8. If your organization is owned by a business or institution, under \"Name of business or institution this organization belongs to\", type the name of the business or institution.\n9. Click **Next**.\n\n## Step 3: Upgrade the organization to a paid plan with yearly payment\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Organizations**.\n2. Select an organization by clicking on it.\n3. Under your organization name, click ** Settings**. If you cannot see the \"Settings\" tab, select the **** dropdown menu, then click **Settings**.\n\n \n4. In the \"Access\" section of the sidebar, click ** Billing and licensing** and then **Licensing**.\n5. Click **Upgrade to Team** next to \"Current plan\".\n6. Under \"How often do you want to be billed?\", select **Pay yearly**.\n7. Under \"How many seats do you want to include?\", define the number of seats you require.\n8. Under \"Payment method\", choose to pay with a credit card or PayPal.\n9. Complete the payment information form, then click **Submit**.\n10. Review the information, then click **Save** to confirm the changes.\n\n## Step 4: Invite your client to join the organization\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Organizations**.\n\n2. Click the name of your organization.\n\n3. Under your organization name, click ** People**.\n\n \n\n4. Click **Invite member**.\n\n5. In the search field, type your client's GitHub username and press **Enter**.\n\n6. Select **Owner**, then click **Send invitation**.\n\n7. Your client will receive an email inviting them to the organization.\n\n> \\[!NOTE]\n> You cannot move on to the next step until your client accepts the invitation to become an organization owner.\n\n## Step 5: Transfer organization ownership to your client\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Organizations**.\n2. Click the name of your organization.\n3. Under your organization name, click ** People**.\n\n \n4. Confirm that your client is listed among the members of the organization and is assigned the owner role.\n5. To the right of your username, select the dropdown menu, and click **Manage**.\n\n \n6. In the left sidebar, click **Remove from organization**.\n7. Confirm your choice and click **Remove members**.\n\n## Next steps\n\n1. Contact your client and ask them to add you to the organization as a billing manager. You'll need to be a billing manager for the organization so that you can renew or make changes to your client's subscription in the future. Your client's paid subscription will automatically renew unless you remove your company's payment method from the organization.
