Device Linking Issue: 8-Digit Code Not Found Anywhere

Hello GitHub Community,

I am currently facing a frustrating issue while trying to link the “Antigravity” app to GitHub on my Mac. The system asks me to provide an 8-digit verification code but offers no instructions on where to find it. The message displayed is:

“Enter the code displayed in the app or the device you’re signing in to. Never use a code sent by someone else.”

Details of the Issue:

• I checked Google Authenticator but only 6-digit codes are available (no 8-digit codes exist there).

• No apps, emails, or notifications on any of my devices provide this 8-digit code.

• I tried using GitHub Mobile on my iPhone, but it does not suggest or display any code either.

Devices Used:

• iPhone

• MacBook

• Windows PC

I am completely stuck in the authentication process. Could anyone please help explain how to retrieve this code or what steps are needed to authenticate successfully?

Hey there!

I ran into this same issue last month. The 8-digit code you need is shown within the Antigravity app itself, not in Google Authenticator or Github Mobile.

When Github asks for the code:

1. Open Antigravity on your Mac.
2. Look for a notification in the bottom-left corner of the app.
3. Enter that 8-digit code into Github's verification prompt.

That should connect them right away. If you don't see the code, try restarting Antigravity and initiating the Github linking again. If that doesn't work, please let me know, I'll be happy to help!

Hmmm, not even the pop-up? It's a pop-up on the bottom left that only appears when you have Antigravity scoped, and there's a small code at the bottom of the pop-up (for some reason it's very small lol)

hi, Someone finally shown me the way, It is not a pop up, it is just a little box in the windows and non very obvious and sometimes even hidden... no notification... It's very small and not popping at all lol and afterwards, even if you have made the linkl, it continues to say that it is not linked... it is a real issue... and hard to explain. I home that someone in the team can make something because, it is unbeareable lol Using Mac studio M3 Ultra and I am limited by "that" arrrrrrg

I am using a MAC and coming in from R-Studio. There is no cursor, little box, nothing and the same request to provide the code from the app. I can't believe this issue remains a mystery!

Hey, I had the same issue but with Cursor. When Cursor redirected me to Google, it asked for a code. At first, I thought GitHub Mobile would provide it since I was linking GitHub with Cursor. But then I realized the code is actually shown in the Cursor prompt itself the one that notifies you that you’re being redirected to Google

I’m using Windsurf and I’m getting the same issue. When I retry, a native modal pops up with a code before it opens the link in Google.

Yesterday at the office I was using VS Code, and it asked for a 6-digit code from Google Authenticator. Maybe Cursor or Windsurf uses the same login flow, not really sure.

Edited: Idk if you’re talking about logging in to get the code, but this is what I have right now.

In my case, it was a little pop up in the bottle-left corner. But it wasn't any code, all it showed me was if I wanted to verify or not, then I clicked and a "Personal access tokens (classic)" appeared afterwards. Finally, I created a token for giving Antigravity the access. Conclusion, yeah there was no 8 digits code, even though the web page that we must enter the code showed up.

Hello,

In your command in Terminal, it will show you the Code too when it will give you the link for the brower you have to add that code when it will be opened in the brower

! First copy your one-time code: 1121-3333
Press Enter to open in your browser...

Then Paste the code, Take a look at the first line. Thats it

It sounds like there may be some confusion about where the verification code is supposed to come from.

The 8-digit code is not generated by Google Authenticator or other TOTP authenticator apps—they only generate 6-digit codes.

A few questions that might help narrow it down:

• Which Antigravity app are you trying to connect to GitHub?
• Is the prompt coming from the Antigravity app, GitHub, or your browser?
• Have you already signed in to GitHub in your browser or on GitHub Mobile?

If this is using GitHub's device authorization flow, the 8-digit code is usually displayed by the app you're trying to sign in with. You then enter that code on GitHub's device activation page after signing in to your GitHub account.

If the app isn't displaying the code at all, that sounds like an issue with the app rather than your GitHub account.

A screenshot of the prompt (with any sensitive information hidden) or the exact name of the Antigravity app would make it much easier for the community to help identify what's going wrong.

In my case, it was a pop-up in the middle of the screen. It displayed a code along with a 'Copy & Continue to GitHub' button.

When I clicked this button, I was redirected to the browser, and the code was automatically copied to my clipboard.
Therefore, once I reached the code entry screen, I just needed to press Ctrl + V (or Windows + V to check the history), and the code was filled in.
I have successfully logged into Cursor on my Windows computer.

Hope this helps anyone experiencing the same issue.
