How we fund Composer development and Packagist.org operations
The cost for maintaining Composer and Packagist.org will exceed US$1 million in 2026. This cost is partially covered by infrastructure donations like servers and bandwidth, but a large part of the cost is staff to operate Packagist.org, provide support and incident response, but also to develop new features. Even at this budget we still lack funding for all of the major improvements to PHP supply chain security we would like to make.
Private Packagist subscriptions (from €59/month) directly fund the development and operations of Packagist.org and Composer. If the major sponsorship tiers above are not the right fit, this is the best way to support us. Best of all, your business gets great additional functionality to work with dependencies in PHP: package mirroring, security monitoring, update review, usage tracking, and of course easy access to code in private packages.

How do I become a sponsor?
Fill out our sponsorship inquiry form with the tier you're interested in, and we'll get you set up.
What happens after I sponsor?
We'll add your logo to the sponsors page, publish a welcome post on social media, and arrange a shared Slack channel if your tier includes one.
What is the shared Slack channel?
Your company will have a dedicated 1:1 Slack channel (via Slack Connect if you use Slack yourself) to connect your engineers directly with the maintainers of Composer and the engineers operating Packagist.org.
How do contracts and billing work?
Sponsorships are based on an annual commitment. Payment is available by credit card or wire transfer upon invoice.
Can I cancel or change tiers?
Yes, sponsorships can be adjusted or cancelled with at least 30 days notice before the end of the current term.
What is your refund policy?
Sponsorships are non-refundable, but you can cancel at any time with at least 30 days notice till end of the respective term.
